Crieff Hydro, a spectacular building in scenic Perthshire, is a fantastic resort for the whole family and loads of superb extras such as childcare are included in the price. Masses of activities are available but make sure you book in advance, as very few are available once you have arrived…
Accommodation
Crieff Hydro has a wide range of accommodation including standard rooms, family suites and the luxurious, Leigh Signature Rooms. The Hydro also has a variety of self-catering lodges on site, from 3 star chalets to 5 star luxury lodges.
Food & Drink
Crieff Hydro has five places to eat. We dined in the Meikle restaurant which is more formal as well as the Brasserie downstairs. The Brasserie had a lovely, cosy relaxed atmosphere and although the menu was cheaper than the Meikle, we actually thought our meal was far superior, so definitely stick to the Brasserie if you do visit.
Things to do
There are a massive range of 60 family activities, outdoors and inside. It’s obviously ideal horse riding and mountain biking country up here plus they have archery, air rifle shooting, clay pigeons as well as plenty of other organised sports. There is a pool with designated hours for floats and noisy splash time. If you’re after some quiet me time there’s a spa and gym. The Big Country soft play is supervised and went down really well with the kids and you can book sessions during the day or while you have a meal in peace if you prefer the occasional dinner for two!
We stayed during half term and it sure was busy which led to a couple of minor issues. Anybody visiting who didn’t have kids would have had a bit of a shock! Also we hadn’t booked any of the kids’ activities ahead of our visit, which is absolutely essential here. Their website has a great activity finder so choose in advance and book, otherwise there will be no space on your preferred activity or session. Big Country childcare was frequently fully booked too. We even once got turned away from the pool which was a shame as that was the session when they inflated the slides. Overall though, there was still plenty to do on site and the kids absolutely loved their activities.
In Summary
Crieff Hydro is a great family-friendly destination but can get pretty crowded…
